The moment our volunteers laid eyes on Edith was the moment we knew she needed us.   She was sitting on death row in a high-kill shelter when CAWS made the quick decision to rescue her and have her transported to us.

Edith was your lost-in-the-shadows, typical black pit bull mix we always see on the weekly urgent list.  You know, the ones that are almost always overlooked.  She had one horribly infected eye and a defeated look but her spirit was still glimmering through the rubble.
Once she arrived and settled in to her foster home we realized Edith had likely been shot in the face, leaving her with a badly damaged and infected eye that has since gone blind.  She also required immediate removal of buck shot that was embedded in and around her face.
After a close examination we were devastated to discover that this poor girl has been living with a very painful ailment that causes her rear knees to pop out of place, causing her to deal with a significant amount of pain and discomfort.
Her only option is to undergo surgery to correct her knees.  We are prepared to do what it takes to give this girl a fresh start and a real chance at a pain-free life.  Our Vets estimate that this life-changing surgery will cost $1600.
